Two Tone Smart Mobile Shelving

Two-Tone Smart mobile shelving — navy body with ivory front panels and lit touch terminals

The Counterpoint

Two-tone /
smart shelving.

A steel mobile shelving bay finished in two masked powder-coat tones — navy body against ivory fronts — moved by a touch terminal that opens one aisle at a time.

01 The principle

Two colours,
one line.

Body and end panels in colour A; front panels and end caps in colour B. The bay runs the powder line twice with a masked spray sequence between passes — a sharp dividing edge, no vinyl, no stickers that can peel.

  • Masked spray — the seam is painted, not applied.
  • No vinyl — identical 60–80 µm cure on both tones.
  • One bake — both colours at 180 °C, same wear.
Standard archive stock — kraft archive boxes, white and blue ring binders, a bound ledger, reference books and a plan drawer of rolled drawings What can be filed

02 What it holds

One row,
five collections.

Shelves re-seat on a 30 mm pitch, so the bay that files paperwork this year can hold boxes, books or instruments the next. Nothing is glued to a layout — the row adapts to whatever the room is asked to keep.

i.

Files & folders

Hanging frames keep A4 and foolscap folders upright; label strips face the open aisle, so a document is found without lifting anything out.

≈ 40 m of filing per bay
ii.

Archive boxes

Standard 310 × 220 × 150 mm boxes, spines out, two deep on a 900 mm shelf — barcodes readable from the aisle.

≈ 60 boxes per bay
iii.

Vouchers & ledgers

Bound volumes lie flat or stand on book supports; steel dividers keep fiscal years apart and upright.

80 kg per layer, tested
iv.

Books & periodicals

Double-sided shelves take reading-room stock; bookends and front stops stop the lean that ruins spines.

6–8 layers, re-seatable
v.

Samples & instruments

Magnetic gaskets and top dust panels seal the run; optional glass doors put stock on display without opening it.

The efficiency 03

One aisle open.
Every other metre still storing.

Static cabinets spend most of their footprint on walking space. A smart run spends almost none: racks park tight against each other, and the motor opens exactly one aisle — where the operator is standing.

  • Touch, not crank — the 7-inch terminal opens the bay you stand at. No force, no wandering.
  • LED guidance — the target bay lights up, so retrieval never depends on memory.
  • Safe by default — infrared aisle scan and soft start/stop keep people and paper clear.

04 Built to grow

Bolts,
not welds.

Nothing in a two-tone run is thrown away when the room changes. Bays bolt on, rail extends in sections, and the whole run can change address — the steel is an asset, not a fitting.

Plan a run that grows →
01

Add bays, same tones

Order two more bays next year and they arrive matching: your two powder batches are kept on file, so new fronts sit beside old ones without a visible seam.

02

The rail takes it

Guide rail is bolted down in surface-mounted sections — no trenches, no screed repairs. The run ends where the room ends and picks up where the archive grows.

03

Move the address

Unbolted, crated and re-laid, a run survives the building move. Numbered panels and the original drawings travel with it, so the second install is as quiet as the first.

04

Recoat, not replace

Steel bodies take a second powder life; welded frames carry a 10-year warranty, and drive parts stay on our shelf for the life of the controller.
